Thomas Haden Church (b.1960) will undoubtedly make a great villain in the form of  Spider-man’s adversary, Flint Marko/Sandman.  Watching the trailer and, knowing of his history in the comic, it is clear that Sandman packs a powerful punch.  It is inevitable that he and Spidey will have some terrific brawls onscreen.

When you see Church getting the beatdown from Spidey in the movie you probably will be surprised to learn that the actor’s last starring role was in a very different movie, the comedy “Sideways.”  It was this movie that brought the actor back out of retirement and back into the limelight.  Receiving much acclaim for his role in the film as the selfish, cheating, about-to-be-married Jack Lapote, Church has had various roles over the last two decades.  He will be taking on a supporting actor role in the upcoming film scheduled for release in 2007 “Smart People”
